plane sunset 54 distressed OFWs return from LebanonA total of 54 domestic workers were repatriated by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Beirut this week after labor chief Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz ordered that distressed Filipino workers housed in Filipino Workers Resource Centers (FWRCs) be given priority.

According to a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news story, Baldoz, who had recently visited Lebanon, said: “I am happy to welcome back to the Philippines the 54 OFWs. This brings down the number of residents in the FWRC in the Lebanese capital to only eight.”

The OFWs who have been oriented on the opportunities available to them under the National Reintegration Program, can benefit from the Balik-Pinay! Balik Hanapbuhay! Program. The program offers P10,000 in livelihood business development, skills training and livelihood starter kits to OFWs who choose to stay in the country and venture into small home-based businesses.

Upon arrival, the repatriated OFWs stayed at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Halfway House.
