Japan needs more technical intern trainees

Japan has a higher demand for Filipino technical intern trainees in the industry, agriculture and services sectors.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news, a report from labor attaché Clifford Paragua of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Tokyo shows that from January-October 2011, about 8,000 job orders for technical intern trainees have been registered, up by almost 100% compared to last year’s total.
Labor chief Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, who is in Japan for an International Labor Organization (ILO) event, has thus approved the implementation of a program for technical intern trainees to earn skills certification from Japan professional organizations and private industry sectors at the end of their three-year work contract.
This will allow the establishment of a registry of Filipino workers who have acquired skills certification abroad, which will boost the probability of their re-employment in other foreign jobsites, especially in Japanese companies.
POLO Tokyo intends to launch the program on a pilot basis early next year together with the Japan International Training Cooperation Organization (JITCO) and the shipbuilding sector.
To complement the Japanese government’s efforts to promote legitimate business operations, Baldoz also reiterated the crucial task of the POLO in verifying the legitimate existence and operations of Japanese companies intending to hire Filipino professionals, skilled workers, and entertainers as a requisite for their accreditation by POLO Tokyo.
She emphasized the POLO’s inherent authority to impose penalties on recruitment malpractices against erring Japanese entertainment promotion companies and other Japanese principals, including the immediate suspension of the processing of their recruitment documents pending investigation. Similar sanctions against their Philippine recruitment agents should likewise be imposed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
