DOLE to initiate brain-gain program for returning OFWs

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will initiate a multi-sectoral brain-gain program to train or enhance the skills of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and provide entrepreneurship opportunities to them, said labor chief Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz.
Baldoz made the announcement during a briefing for the media on the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (PLEP) 2011-2016 early this week, according to a DOLE press release. Read more
POEA launches citizens watch vs illegal recruiters, human traffickers

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) head Carlos S Cao Jr launched the POEA Citizens Watch Against Illegal Recruitment and Human Trafficking on April 26 at the POEA Office in Mandaluyong City.
Deans of law schools, heads of non-government organizations (NGOs) and faith-based groups attended the formal launching of the program and signed the Memorandum of Commitment and Patriotism (MOCP) with the POEA. Read more
PH Embassy in Rome warns against bogus job offers in Italy

The Philippine Embassy in Rome said there are bogus job offers being circulated among Filipinos in Italy and in the Philippines, promising L’Aquila, Italy as a destination for Filipino workers, according to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news.
The project proponent in the email represents itself as the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Housing Reconstruction of Earthquake Affected Cities Program, which is allegedly under the Auspices of World Rehabilitation Program (WRP) and Italian Freedom Corps (IFC). Read more
DFA raises crisis alert level in Syria

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised the crisis alert level in Syria to alert level 2, in light of the continuing political tension in the country and as a precautionary measure for the Filipino community there.
According to DFA news, alert level 2 entails restriction of movements around Syria, avoiding large crowds and areas of protest, and encouraging Filipinos to voluntarily relocate or leave the country at their own cost Read more

34 OFWs from war-torn Libya to be repatriated

A total of 34 more Filipinos will fly out of Djerba, Tunisia on April 25 after being trapped in war-torn Libya.
According to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news, the number includes five Filipina nurses and one Filipino engineer who were recently rescued by the Philippine Embassy reaction team in Zitlin after being trapped in Misurata for 23 days as the battle between government and pro-democracy forces went on.
