praying hands China postpones execution of 3 OFWs, Bishops call for prayersCatholic Bishops are calling on Filipinos to pray for the three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on death row in China, whose execution was postponed after Vice President Jejomar Binay flew to the country Friday to appeal for a reprieve.

According to reports from The Philippine Star , Binay said the Chinese Supreme People’s Court has postponed the execution of Ramon Credo, 42; Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, 32; and Elizabeth Batain, 38, “within the scope of Chinese law.” Read more

foreign currencies 2010 remittances reach US$18.8 billion, surpass 8% growth projectionTotal remittances coursed through banks were higher than expected in 2010, rising year-on-year by 8.2% to US$18.8 billion, according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) news.

The total for the year is slightly more than BSP’s forecast of $18.7 billion, or an 8% year-on-year growth for 2010. In December, remittances grew by 8.1% with a monthly total of US$1.7 billion. Read more
