Some 134 Filipinos are now out of Libya and on their way home, according to a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) press release.

DFA teams ready to assist Filipinos in Libya

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said today that its teams from Manila, and the Philippine Embassies in Cairo and Tripoli are in place to assist Filipinos in Libya.
The six-man DFA team from Manila led by DFA-Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) Executive Director Ricardo Endaya is expected to arrive in Tripoli today, according to DFA news. Read more

Survey shows Filipinos the “most charitable” Asians

A survey shows that Filipinos are No. 1 when it comes to giving to charity in Asia and Africa, according to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.
The MasterCard Survey on Ethical Spending showed that Filipinos, at 68%, are the most charitable even if their Asian neighbors may be more well-to-do. Hong Kong is second at 66%, followed by Malaysia, 63%, and Indonesia, 62%. Read more
DFA issues advisory on travel to Libya, Bahrain and Yemen

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advises Filipinos to postpone non-essential and non-urgent travels to Libya, Bahrain and Yemen, where protest actions are ongoing, until the security situation has stabilized.
According to DFA news, the Philippine Embassies in Tripoli, Manama and Riyadh reported that they are in heightened alert. The Filipinos there are safe, and the embassies are in constant communication with them. Read more

Bagong Bayani Awards (BBA), which honors outstanding overseas Filipino workers (OFW) as today’s heroes, is accepting nominations until May 31, 2011, according to an announcement posted on the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) website.
This is a project of Bagong Bayani Foundation Inc (BBFI), in coordination with the POEA, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the private sector. Read more
Brillante’s “Lola” wins best film in Iran

The Filipino movie Lola, which was directed by Brillante Mendoza, won the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Film in the 29th Fajr International Festival Awards Night held at the Milad Tower in Tehran, Iran early this month.
According to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news, the film’s leading actors, Anita Linda and Rustica Carpio, also won and tied for the Best Performance in the international competition. Read more
