New email scam targets UK-bound nurses

A new illegal online recruitment scheme targets nurses, according to a report from the Philippine Nurses Association-United Kingdom (PNA-UK) to the Philippine Embassy.
The illegal recruiters send job offers via emails to nurses who have previously submitted their resumes in public job search websites, said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in a news release. Read more

Remittances continue to rise in November

Remittances coursed through banks reached US$1.6 billion in November 2010, registering a 10.5% growth, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando M Tetangco Jr announced yesterday.
Strong remittance flows from sea-based and land-based workers brought the total for January-November to $17.1 billion. This is 8.2% higher than the level recorded for the same period in 2009, according to BSP news. Read more
