DOLE warns against firms selling products to job applicants

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) warned graduates, students and job seekers against marketing firms that compel applicants to purchase their products, pay for training kits and undergo training for non-existing jobs.
According to DOLE news, the warning came after a worker, who paid more than P4,000 to a marketing firm in Malate, filed a complaint with the DOLE’s Public Assistance Complaint Unit (PACU). Read more

Remittances reach record level, up 9.3% in October

Remittances from overseas Filipinos grew by 9.3% in October 2010 to reach US$1.7 billion, the highest monthly level posted during the year, according to a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) news release.
The total for January-October is $15.5 billion, 7.9% higher than the amount recorded for the same period in 2009. Read more

More than half of over 180 countries where overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) seek jobs still need to be certified by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) as safe for deployment said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
According to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, POEA Administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili said countries that have been certified by the DFA so far include all 65 countries with Philippine (PH) embassies, including major destinations in the Middle East. Read more
