Government lifts ban on deployment of au pairs

The ban on recruitment and deployment of au pairs to selected European countries is finally lifted after 13 years.
In a Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) news release, Administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili said the POEA Governing Board has issued three separate resolutions this year, allowing the deployment of au pairs to Switzerland, Norway and Denmark. Read more

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warns women applicants against accepting offers of work as entertainers in Cyprus.
According to a POEA news advisory, Administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili said some nightclubs in Cyprus are hiring legitimate Filipino entertainers but force them to work as prostitutes. Read more

The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta said that as of Wednesday morning, no Filipino was affected by the tsunami and 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Sumatra.

20 seafarers freed by pirates arrive in RP

Twenty seafarers of a Panamanian-flagged vessel released by pirates off the coast of Somalia arrived home at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last October 25 via Etihad Airways.
According to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news, the MV Voc Daisy was released from captivity on October 17. It was hijacked last April 21, some 190 nautical miles off the coast of Salalah, Oman. Read more

Alternative US exam for PT graduates from RP

Physical Therapy (PT) graduates from the Philippines will be allowed to take up an alternative form of the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) in the United States (US) in May 25 and December 5, 2011.
The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) said in its website that it will offer NPTE-i (formerly NPTE-YRLY) for physical therapists who received their first professional degree in the restricted countries: Egypt, India, Pakistan and the Philippines. Read more
