Philippine giant shells to adorn world-famous Barcelona church

Three pairs of giant Philippine shells, Tridacna gigas, will adorn the world-famous La Sagrada Familia Church in Barcelona, which will be blessed and proclaimed as a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI on November 7.
According to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news, the shells, which were donated by the Philippines to Spain, will be installed as holy water fonts in the main nave of the church. Read more

The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago both proclaimed October 2010 as Filipino-American History Month, according to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news.
In a proclamation dated early this month, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn recognized the contributions Filipino Americans have made to the state and to the nation as a whole. The governor also celebrated the presence of all Filipino-Americans who call Illinois home. Read more

President Benigno Aquino III answered questions from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and Filipino communities abroad at the Global PNoy Town Hall Meeting sa TFC, which was aired live on ANC earlier today.
Aquino, who is in the United States (US) for a week, was asked about what his government would do to attract overseas Filipinos to return to the country, help undocumented Filipinos in the US, and protect OFWs from abuse, among other things. Read more

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Labor and Immigration (LIM) of the Province of Manitoba, Canada concerning cooperation in human resource development (HRD) and deployment.
