Recruitment agencies warned not to charge placement fees for US, Guam

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) again warned recruitment agencies from charging placement fees from
applicants bound for the United States (US), including Guam.
This developed as US State Department Acting Fraud Prevention Manager Clay Allen reiterated that his office continues to process applicants bound for Guam who admit that they are paying manpower agencies placement or recruitment fees. Read more

Labor chief Rosalinda Baldoz said South Korea will explore more ways to assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning to the Philippines, including facilitating local job placements and conducting job fairs.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news, Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) will work with DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) and regional offices (ROs). Read more
16 OFWs stranded in Singapore, POEA summons agencies involved

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) summoned five recruitment agencies after 16 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were prevented by Singapore police from boarding their connecting flights.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news, the first batch of eight OFWs arrived in Singapore on August 12 via JetStar but were not allowed to board their connecting flight to Abu Dhabi. Read more
DOLE issues latest warning on UK online job offers

The Philippine Embassy in London warned online job applicants about offers that require them to remit money for the processing of visas or work permits and other travel-related expenses.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news, Director Manuel Roldan said charging of fees is prohibited under the current United Kingdom (UK) employment regulation. Read more

7 OFWs granted presidential pardon in Maldives

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said today that it successfully secured presidential pardon for seven overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) imprisoned in Maldives for credit card theft.
The OFWs arrived in Manila on August 13, and were met at airport by representatives of the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Read more
RP joins Youth Olympic Games in Singapore

Nine Filipino athletes, ages 14 to 17 years old, are competing in the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore on August 14-26, according to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) news.

The Philippines is establishing itself as a major business process outsourcing (BPO) player in non-voice services, said the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP) during the World BPO Forum in Jersey City, New Jersey on July 28-29.
Aside from call centers, BPO includes non-voice services such as information technology (IT)-related work and bills processing. Read more
