Cebu Pacific offers budget RP-Brunei flights

Cebu Pacific launched last week budget flights between the Philippines and Brunei for as low as about P2,800, according to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.
The lowest year-round Go-Lite fare is B$86 or about P2,800; passengers with check-in luggage add B$3 or about P99 upon booking. Read more
37,679 nurses pass July 2010 board exam

A total of 37,679 out of 91,008 examinees passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given last July, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Rayan Abogado Oliva of Ateneo de Naga topped the exam with a rating of 86.80%. Read more
OFWs in US bases may finish contracts in Iraq

Filipino workers in United States (US) military facilities in Iraq may continue working there until their contracts expire, according to a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) report.
They can finish their contracts upon the approval of the high-level inter-agency committee mandated to assess the security situation and ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino workers in Iraq.
At the same time, the total ban against the deployment of Filipino workers to Iraq remains.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) honored recipients of the nationwide 2010 TESDA Kabalikat Awards and The Idols ng TESDA Award last August 25.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news, TESDA’s Kabalikat Awards recognizes its outstanding partners that have assisted in promoting the employability and competitiveness of the country’s workforce. TESDA partners include local government units (LGUs), institutions and private sector companies. Read more
RP, Korea sign pact on occupational safety and health

The Philippines and South Korea signed this month an agreement that aims to promote the safety and health of workers in the Philippines and South Korea, according to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news.
The agreement will help enhance the capability of the DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Center. It will be implemented for three years, and may be extended upon the consent of both parties. Read more

OFW in HK terminated after hostage-taking incident

A Filipina domestic worker said her employer in Hong Kong (HK) terminated her Monday after the hostage-taking incident that resulted in the deaths of eight tourists from HK.
According to a Philippine Star report, the Philippine Consulate in HK said the Filipina still had five months left in her contract but after receiving a notice of termination, she will be unemployed by September 23. Read more
Korean language test set in November 2010

The Human Resource Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) in
cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will conduct the Korean Language Test on November 14, 2010.
Registration is on September 20-23, 2010 for the Employment Permit System-Korean Language Test (EPS-KLT)–which is now called Employment Permit System-Test of Proficiency in Korean (EPS-TOPIK). Read more
