More than 100,000 jobs at Labor Day fair

More than 100,000 jobs will be available at the Labor Day JOBS LIVE!–a nationwide job and livelihood fair that will be held simultaneously in Metro Manila and across 15 other regions on May 1, 2010, according to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) news.
Labor Chief Marianito D Roque said in the National Capital Region (NCR) alone, 150 employers will offer some 80,000 jobs abroad and about 30,000 opportunities for local employment. Read more
Korean Language Test on May 2

The 6th Korean Employment Permit System-Korean Language Test (EPS-KLT) will be held on May 2, 2010, according to an advisory posted on the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) website.

OFWs now exempt from stamp tax on remittances

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are exempted from paying documentary stamp tax (DST) on remittances after the amended Migrant Workers Act was signed into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
According to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, based on figures from the Department of Finance (DOF), this will translate to P1.3 billion in savings for OFWs, who are expected to send US$19 billion in funds to families in the Philippines in 2010. Read more

Fewer Filipino nurses are looking for work in the United States (US) in the first quarter of 2010 based on the number who took the US nursing exam, said Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) Secretary General Ernesto Herrera.

Some 1,390 Filipinos in Iceland are safe despite a volcanic eruption which continues to affect air travel in parts of Europe, according to news from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) issued an advisory to all Philippine Embassies and Consulates General to warn overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against rampant franchising scams.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said it receives numerous complaints from victims of franchising scams, especially from OFWs, according to news from the DFA. Read more
