RP, Marianas labor officials discuss immigration rules

Philippine and Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) labor officials discussed CNMI’s proposal to issue a two-year umbrella permit to all foreign workers.
According to news from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Philippine Consulate General in Saipan met last month with a delegation headed by CNMI’s Acting Labor Secretary Barry Hirschbein. Read more
18,863 teachers pass exams

Results of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given last October show that 8,045 out of 43,086 elementary teachers (18.67%), 26 out of 146 Accelerated Teacher Education Program (ATEP) examinees (17.81%) and 10,792 out of 38,339 secondary teachers (28.15%) successfully passed. Read more
1,646 marine deck officers pass exams

A total of 1,646 out of 3,643 examinees passed the written phase of the Marine Deck Officers Licensure Examinations held in November.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released the results early this month. The exam was given by the Board for Marine Deck Officers in Manila. Read more

A more conducive and welcoming environment in Singapore has encouraged Filipino professionals, especially those in the information technology (IT) field, to find jobs here since 2001.

A Filipina won the Japan International Award 2009 for Young Agricultural Researchers, according to news from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Dr Maria Junemie Hazel Leonida Lebata-Ramos, a researcher for the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), received the award early this month. Read more
RP opens honorary consulate in South Italy

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Philippe J Lhuillier led the inauguration of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Reggio Calabria last month, according to news from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The honorary consulate has consular jurisdiction over the provinces of Reggio Calabria, Cosenza, Catanzaro, Vibo Valenzia, Crotone and Messina. According to the July 2009 statistics from the Italian Ministry of Interior, there are 2,240 registered Filipinos in these areas. Read more
RP peacekeepers in Darfur honored

The United Nations (UN) awarded peacekeeping medals to 91 officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) serving as police advisers with the UN-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
According to news from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), UNAMID Joint Special Representative Henry Anyidoho commended the Filipino peacekeepers for their disciplined approach to their duties, selflessness and substantial contribution to the peace process in Darfur. Read more
