2009 model OFW families named

A family from Batangas and another from Masbate were awarded as this year’s model overseas Filipino worker (OFW) families by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Rodolfo Pita Lubis’s family from Lipa, Batangas is the national winner of the 2009 Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA) in the land-based sector, while Emilio Bajar Bello’s family from Baleno, Masbate is the national winner in the sea-based sector. Over 3000 Filipinos arrive in KSA for Hajj

A total of 3,445 Filipino pilgrims arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the pilgrims came aboard 13 different flights from Manila and entered KSA through Madinah or Jeddah. Read more

RP honorary consul for Southern Israel appointed

Boaz Waksman was sworn into office as the Philippine Honorary Consul in Ashdod with consular jurisdiction over Sourthern Israel last week.
Philippine Ambassador to Israel Petronila Garcia welcomed Waksman’s appointment, according to news from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). During his accreditation ceremony, she said that protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is one of the priorities of the embassy and an honorary consul covering the southern part of Israel will definitely aid the embassy in performing this task. KSA requires prometric exam for nurses

The Saudi Council requires all foreign nurses to pass the prometric exam before working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), announced the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
In the Philippines, the accredited testing center is Thomson Prometric, Ateneo Professional Schools, located at 130 H Dela Costa St, Salcedo Village, Makati City. Read more
26 aeronautical engineers pass exam

A total of 26 examinees out of 95 have passed the Aeronautical Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of Aeronautical Engineering in Manila this month.

Pinoy named CNN Hero of the Year

Filipino educator Efren Peñaflorida was named CNN Hero of the Year after winning in an online poll that generated a total of 2.7 million votes.
Peñaflorida, who was honored for teaching marginalized Filipino children through a classroom on wheels (kariton klasroom), was among 10 finalists who were selected out of 9,000 applicants from all over the world. Read more
