OWWA launches 2009 model OFW award

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) formally launched the 2009 Model OFW of the Year Award (MOFYA) at Casa Marinero, Intramuros, Manila last week.
According to OWWA Administrator Carmelita S Dimzon, the annual award gives recognition to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families who have managed the impact of overseas employment and maintained strong family ties. Read more

Filipino wins bronze at math olympiad in Germany

Carmela Antoinette Lao, a high school student at St Jude Catholic School in Manila, won the bronze medal at the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was held on July 10-22 in Bremen, Germany.

Ericsson hires 20 more OFWs in Stockholm

Ericsson hired a new batch of 20 Filipinos, increasing the number of Filipino personnel in its global headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.

Belgium approves regularization for illegal migrants

Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy (Flemish Christian Democrat) announced this month the details of the Federal Government agreement on regularization of undocumented migrants.
Under the new regularization policy, illegal migrants who lived in Belgium for at least five years and had filed their initial applications for regularization on or before March 18, 2009 can re-submit their applications with the Office for Foreigners of the Ministry of Interior starting on September 15-December 15, 2009.
