RP, Barbados establish diplomatic relations

The Philippines formally established diplomatic relations with the Caribbean island-state of Barbados in ceremonies held in New York early this week.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Mission to the United Nations said the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Barbados was signed last June 22. Read more

GMA inaugurates ICTSI container yard in Brazil

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated the newly-expanded Tecon Suape Container Yard of Filipino-owned International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in the port city of Recife.

According to the Office of the Press Secretary, Arroyo visited the expanded container yard before she left for Brasilia on the second leg of her four-day, three-city visit to the Federal Republic of Brazil. Read more

RP embassy in Tehran ready with contingency plan

The Philippine Embassy in Tehran said it is in touch with Filipinos in the area and is prepared to activate and carry out its contingency plan, if necessary.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the embassy issued an advisory telling all Filipinos to take the necessary precautionary measures at home and at work to make sure they remain safe. 16 die of overwork in Japan

Concerns of widespread labor exploitation have been raised after 16 Asians working in Japan’s training schemes died within 12 months of health problems linked to “overwork,” said lawyer Shoichi Ibusuki.

Deployment ban stays as RP, Lebanon discuss labor pact

The Philippines and Lebanon will further negotiate the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Labor Cooperation, which is aimed at protecting the rights and promote the welfare of Filipino workers in Lebanon.
