it worker Govt to hire 180,000 workers for six monthsThe Philippine government will hire 180,000 temporary workers for six months as part of the government’s strategy to cushion the impact of the deepening global financial crisis on the average Filipinos. So far, some 39,000 workers have lost their jobs since last year according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Executive Order No 738 last week, directing all Cabinet members to draw up and prepare emergency work programs and livelihood projects designed to benefit the vulnerable sectors of Philippine society.

She ordered all government agencies to set aside 1.5 percent of their respective allocations for maintenance, overhead and operating expenses for the six-month emergency employment program. Read more

Korea DOLE team to help OFWs in Korea find jobsThe Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has sent a three-man team to Korea to help overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) find jobs or other means of livelihood before they lose their current employment due to the global economic crisis.

The team is composed of representatives from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO). Read more

UKBA to require identity cards from more foreign nationals

LONDON, United Kingdom – The UK Government is to extend the immigration categories for which Identity Cards will become a compulsory requirement.

In a news release on the Home Office website, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) announced that “regulations laid before Parliament on 9 February mean that even more successful applicants for leave to remain from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) are expected to receive identity cards for foreign nationals.” Read more

On February 18, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 39,455 out of 88,649 passed exams given by the Board of Nursing
in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi,
