UK Club assesses 200,000th crew candidate

The UK P&I Club’s Pre-Employment Medical Examination Programme has just processed its 200,000th examinee. Dennis U Baclay, a 34-year-old Filipino, met the Programme’s exacting standards at the SuperCare Medical Service Clinic in Manila on January 13th, the UK Club said in a statement.
He was put forward by manning agents Philippine Transmarine Carriers on behalf of UK Club member Rizzo-Bottiglieri-De Carlini Amatori. Mr. Baclay will serve aboard the Michele Bottiglieri as chief cook. Read more

Nearly 77% of the total number of internationally educated nurses who took the US licensure exams for the first time last year were Filipino.

OFW remittances hit $15B as of Nov

Remittances of overseas Filipinos for 2008 reached US$15 billion as of November, up 15.1% from a year ago and only $1.3 billion short of the projected amount for the whole year.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) expects remittances sent to the Philippines through the banking system from January to December 2008 to hit $16.3 billion, higher by 13% than $14.4 billion in 2007. Read more

2009 will not be as gloomy as economists and analysts are predicting it to be. The good news for Filipino job seekers is that the most popular OFW professions–engineers, medical technicians and nurses–are still in the most wanted list this year.
An article published by Yahoo! and written by Joy Victory of Payscale.com, entitled “10 Hot Professions for 2009,” said there will always be a high demand for healthcare technicians (radiology or X-ray technicians, lab assistants and home health aides), engineers (particularly mechanical engineers) and nurses. 200 Filipino nurses, 300 caregivers to be sent to Japan

The training and hiring program under the Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the Philippines (JPEPA) will start with the initial recruitment of 200 Filipino nurses and 300 caregivers, said Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will endorse this first batch of nurses and caregivers to the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) which will match them with pre-qualified hospitals and institutions in Japan. Read more
NZ to adopt new ‘skills in demand’ lists by March

The Department of Labour of New Zealand will be following an updated Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) and Immediate Skill Shortage List (ISSL) starting March 3.
